  • 2024 High Park & Sunnyside Beach Birding Highlights

    2024’s birding in High Park & Sunnyside Beach started off on a real high note this year, with the finding of the Bullock’s Oriole by Donald Taylor on 23 February. It was tough to beat the first great bird of the year, but there were other highlights spread throughout the year.

  • 2024 Hawk Watch Bingo!

    Each hawk watching season has a small target in the back of my head - raptor bingo. To get a raptor bingo, you must see all 15 of the regularly observed species in one season. I have luckily been able to accomplish this for each of the four years I have been a counter on Hawk Hill so far.

  • High Park Butterfly Checklist and Timeline

    Late last year, I became interested in expanding my knowledge about the inhabitants and visitors to High Park. For birders, it seems butterflies is a natural progression once you become familiar with your local birds.

  • High Park Hawk Watch: A Mid-Season Record

    After yesterday’s flight, the High Park Hawk Watch has now set a season record for highest mass*: an estimated 16,194 kg of raptors. This is largely due to the record setting year for Turkey Vultures (~2kg), which is currently 40% higher than last year’s previous record setting total - we’re now over 7,600.
